After its debut at the Detroit auto show earlier this year, enthusiasm for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray hasn’t died down. Now, we have official pricing information for the C7 Vette: the coupe will start at $51,995 and the convertible will run $56,995, both including destination.
The 2014 price represents an increase of just $1400 on both the coupe and convertible over the base 2013 Corvette. That means buyers of the all-new C7 Corvette will be gaining a fair bit of kit for not much more.
First and foremost, the 2014 Corvette is powered by the new LT1 6.2-liter V-8 that’s good for 450 hp, or an additional 20 hp over the outgoing car. The C7 also has another gear for its manual transmission at seven speeds and includes active rev matching. Other standard equipment includes a five-position Drive Model Selector, dual, eight-inch configurable driver and information screens; a backup camera; a nine-speaker Bose audio system; and an all-new, fully electronic top for convertibles that can be lowered using the key fob.
However, if you’re wondering how much that shiny Corvette coupe that debuted at the Detroit show costs, you’ll have to open your wallet a little wider: that car wears a price tag of $73,360. To raise the Corvette’s cost by some $21,365, Chevy added a slew of options. To add even more sporting credentials, the show car had the Z51 Performance Package ($2800), competition sports seats ($2495), Magnetic Ride Control ($1795), and a dual-mode exhaust system ($1195). The Z51 package is something that enthusiasts should make sure to tick the option box for – it includes unique chassis tuning, modified gear ratios, a transmission-cooling system, larger 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, upgraded brake rotors and cooling ducts, performance traction management, and an electronic limited-slip differential and differential cooling system. More importantly, the Z51 package drops the Corvette’s 0-60 mph time to “under four seconds” and allows for “more than 1 g in cornering,” according to Chevy. To read more visit automobilemag.com

Barrett-Jackson auctioned off the first production 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible in Palm Beach this evening, with the open-top two-seater commanding a huge winning bid of $1,000,000 from Rick Hendrick, owner of NASCAR team Hendrick Motorsports.
While the Geneva Motor Show C7 prototype is pictured above (it also was shown at Barrett-Jackson), Hendrick won rights to the first retail production model (VIN undetermined at this time), allowing him to choose both color and options before his V8 sports car rolls off the assembly line in the near future. Hopefully, by the time that happens, we will all know more about its soft convertible top, double-bubble tonneau and the mechanism that opens and lowers the fully automatic roof at speeds upwards of 30 mph.
It is worth mentioning that proceeds from the sale of this first C7 droptop will benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer institute, one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States that strives to prevent, detect and eradicate all forms of cancer. The General Motors Foundation is a longtime supporter of Karmanos, with nearly $6 million in support over the last 15 years.
